The Juvenile Welfare Board (JWB), RCW’s primary funder has completed its ASSET Certification process in June of 2006.  RCW received its ASSET certification for 2006-2009.  ASSET Certification is after completion of a 6-month review process.  A.S.S.E.T. (Agency Self-Study Efficacy Tool), integrates and encourages quality improvement and public accountability practices in the delivery of results-based outcomes.  The standards established within the A.S.S.E.T. tool are a blend of “best practices” in the administrative and services fields with key elements of the JWB Strategic Plan.

Article in the Tampa Bay Woman Newspaper
January / February 2007

Does the idea of escaping your everyday life for a vacation getaway sound appealing?  How about the experience of being a bat boy or girl at a Devil Rays game?  Or maybe you’re a collector or music fanatic who’d like to get your hands wrapped around the neck of an Eric Clapton autographed guitar.  If you’re ready for some “experiences” you will never forget, you’re invited to the Resource Center for Women’s Dream Auction.  The Center is celebrating 30 years of  helping women in Pinellas County make THEIR dreams come true!

On March 24, 2007, the Dream Auction fundraiser is being held at the new Hilton St. Petersburg in Carillon Park.  The Auction includes live and silent auctions, dinner and dancing in one of the newest hot spots in St. Petersburg.  All proceeds from the event will go directly to support the programs of the Resource Center for Women.

The mission of RCW is to assist individuals in achieving emotional strength, economic stability and self-sufficiency.  RCW does this through life skills education including programs in personal growth, career development, parenting, financial management and computer training.  Classes are held monthly at RCW’s two locations in Largo and South St. Petersburg.

RCW is a small, community-based agency that serves any woman in Pinellas County over age 18, primarily single moms or women who are head of their household with dependent children or a disabled spouse in their care.
Over 20,000 women have completed RCW programs since 1977.  For every woman helped, two others, usually children, benefit.

“When my husband left I was lost.  I didn’t know where to start.  I was depressed, needed a job and was losing control of my children. At the Resource Center for Women,  I found people who wanted to help me get back on my feet.  I now feel better about myself and the challenges I’m facing.” , says Karen P., a client of the Resource Center for Women.

Karen is one example of a woman in transition receiving support, education and hope at our Center.   We all know a woman in transition, whether a mother, a daughter, a sister, an aunt, a niece, a grandchild or a friend.  Women enter RCW’s doors every day looking for support as they face transitions in their career, their marriage, their financial situation and their parenting responsibilities.  “The Resource Center for Women is a place where women can feel comfortable facing the reality of their situation and getting the skills they need to help them get back on their feet.”, says Susan Olsen, Executive Director.

RCW is funded by Juvenile Welfare Board, Schoen Foundation, Ameriprise Financial Company, Pinellas County Community Foundation, corporate and individual donors.  “The success of the Dream Auction will enable the Center to continue the quality of programs and services, as well as expand to serve more women in Pinellas county.”, says Bob Berman, President of the Board of Directors.
